Popular due to its pronounced grain and uniform texture, Knotty Alder has the strength of maple and the personality of pine. This wood is light brown in color, with yellow and peach hues. Stains help to further highlight the beautiful grain. The open, solid knots give Alder a more informal presence. This versatile wood species features a fairly straight grain with segments of burl clusters and small knots. These marks add character and provide a darker texture and color, when finished. Alder varies in color from pale yellow to reddish brown, accepting stains exceptionally well. It is also the lightest and least dense variety of wood. Knotty Alder presents a more rustic look for wood doors. When stained, Alder blends well with Walnut, Mahogany, and Cherry tones.
