There are many things that define our favorite TV episodes and characters, and one of those is a great entrance. Other times, exits and entrances are what keep a show rolling along, providing laughs for the audience and confusion for the characters. These 10 memorable door moments from television are as much a part of pop culture as the shows themselves. Just click on each picture to see these scenes unfold.
No one’s entrances are more famous than Seinfeld’s Cosmo Kramer’s. Often outlandish, occasionally surprisingly subtle, Michael Richards made Kramer’s steps across Jerry’s threshold a hallmark of his character and of the award-wining show. This montage of every entrance Kramer ever made is something to behold.
Since the majority of Friends took place in two apartments across the hall from each other, it’s only natural that doors would be a running theme. You could probably do an entire list of door scenes just from Friends alone, as one montage of slamming doors on YouTube demonstrates. Perhaps the funniest door moment in Friends, however, happens away from their apartments in Season Two’s “The One After The Superbowl,” when Chandler must traipse through a restaurant with a door in lieu of pants.
The Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper has a very unique way of knocking on doors, which has become one of his many infamous quirks. He quickly knocks three times, says someone’s name, and knocks three times again, repeating it until the person finally opens the door. His knock may be irritating, but, you have to hand it to Sheldon, it’s always effective and elicits many laughs from the audience.
One of the most appealing things about Cheers is that it is, “the bar where everyone knows your name.” No one demonstrates that better than Norm Peterson, whose every entrance was greeted with an enthusiastic, “NORM!” from every patron and was accompanied by a quick comeback to the most mundane questions. For example, Sam asks him, “How’s life treating you?” His pithy and matter-of-fact response, “It’s not, Sammy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t.” Those quick and witty exchanges ensure each of his entrances is always funny ones.
